Ok, I guess this is my first “true” entry. So let me just get right into it.

First, I’d like you to let me run a quick senario by you. Ready? K, Lets say you and your significant other have been together for a couple months and everything seems to be going really good.

You and him/her have everything a good or at least decent relationship should have. You do everything a solid couple does, you laugh, make love, fight, and cry together everything seems perfect right?!

Now lets say one day you are supposed to meet him/her for coffee and (s)he doesnt show up. Naturally you get worried so you call, Than you wait, than probably call again, leave a message maybe a text and you go on with your day.

Still a bit concerned you jump online to see if any one of your mutual buddies has heard from her/him. So you jump onto your fav. social networking site and BAM! there she has been updating her status all day about nonsense no one really gives a shit about. So automatically you think 2 things:

1. (S)he must of forgot about our little coffee date and didnt here her/his phone ringing (bullshit)
or
2. This mutherf**ker blew me off. (probably the truth)

So you get a little pissed decide to be bigger person, sleep it off and try to call him/her the next day to see wtf is up. The call goes something like this:

You- hey whats up? where were you yesterday? you told me that you wanted to do coffee and never showed up

(S)he-yea sorry i was super busy and just couldn’t find the time.

You- Oh… didnt you get my calls? text? email? You were so busy you couldnt take the 2 minutes to let me know you werent going to make it? Is everything cool?

(S)he- Yea everything is totally fine but i just didn’t have time. sorry about that.

You- ok well do you want to hook up later today or tomorrow?

(S)he- yea maybe ill see how today goes and ill call you later to let you know if anytime this week is good for me to fit you in.

You- ummmm…. ok?

(S)he- Dont be worried i still like/ love you but i just dont think i have a need for you right now. maybe next week is better but call monday to find out.

you- ughhhhh??? you sure everything is cool? (thinking ok shithead i get it, but i wish this ass would just tell me its over and i can move on with my fu**ing life)

(S)he – yea totally.

You- yea sure…ok well i guess ill call you later about next week.

I’m sure you can guess what comes next. You call later. No answer. You call again. No answer. You get the point.

Basically you were Blown off, your relationship,friendship, everything you worked together to create, all gone. no explanation just POOF! like Indian magic gone.

Now, i know that was super long and emo but im trying to get to a point trust me. If someone did that shit to you, you would be pissed right? your friends would hate that person, you’d go out have a couple drinks and try to move on but the one question you ( at least i know i would)  would constinently ask yourself is:

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL ABOUT, WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE SUCH A SHITTY BLOW OFF BREAK UP? AND WHY NOT EVEN A FUCKING PEEP ABOUT WHAT WENT WRONG!

Now, if you dont think that was a pretty shitty situation for the “dumped” than your an ass and i will probably end up working for you in your “art” department some day. (Cause its just my luck)

If while you were reading that long winded shit and thought this sounds vaguely familiar its probably because you have a shitty love life or your a freelancer who has been in this situation with an inhouse client. It seems like a reoccuring theme in my career (hopefully not yours) but what the fuck! Why is this ok?I just think its fucked up on so many levels. If the rolls were reversed I would be made out to look like a “no show / no call” as the creative staffing folks like to say (*Digipimps as I like to refer to them as) and even black listed from there “prestigious jobs postings”.

*beware when under the rule of some Digipimps no show/no callers can be docked pay and have all there previous hours dropped from the agreed rate to minimum wage…. yep minimum wage!

In a perfect world this is how i think the “blow off” should go:

Designer – Hey wanted to check with you about my schedule this week. What days do you think I should come in? I am working on 10 projects and should probably come in for the week but its up to you.

Client – Actually i wanted to talk to you about working here. My boss realized that i have been perusing craigslist all day looking for a NSA hook ups and vintage jeans while you have taken on all of my responsibilities and all my projects. He told me it was me or you that had to go. Naturally I choose you.

Designer – Ok then. Thanks for being honest. Vintage jeans?

Client – yea… I’ll call you if i ever get a new boss.

Designer – Sounds great.

There! Clean break! honest and simple.

If only we lived in a perfect world. Instead we choose a design field in NYC.

Aye Yo! Wassup.

I would like to give you a brief rundown before you get the complete wrong impression of my “blog”.

here is 5 points you should know before reading on. the day is short and I would hate for you to waste your precious blog reading time on lil ol’ me.

1. Some people might see the word(s) “Quit Freelancing” and might say to themselves…Hmmmm, this must be one of those self help guys who is going to get me out of my dead end job at the local yuppie(sp?) factory, help me make millions of dollars, get a boat,a trophy wife, and a blablabla…. NOPE! You will find none of that shit in here.

2. If you were hoping for a cute lil blog about some stay at home mom / dad or whatever who works as a freelancer and wants to share there success and  love for the 8th career move they made this month.  You will find none of that shit in here.

3. If you are thinking o hay! cool a freelance blog! cant wait to read it and find design tips, contacts, this, that and the other . Once again it aint going to be here.

4. If you are looking for some young whippersnapper with great grammar, perfect punctuation, witty jokes and a passion for life. Guess what! you totally are in the wrong place. Side note I would like to just apologize now for how bad my grammar is and will be moving forward.

5. If the phrase or word’s: “make it pop”,  “can we add a couple more starbust”,  “comic sans”, “the clients and or my husband/spouse is an artist and thinks….” “more / less copy please” and my all time favorite , “this should only take you a minute” makes you want to take an xacto knife to your pretty little wrist in the middle of your comp. Than I say to you my friend, enemy, colleague, peer, mentor, competition, and drinking buddy.
